Hi, I’m Ruva! 👋🏾
I’m a Faculty Intern at Ashesi University, where I support students in the Intermediate Programming and Introduction to AI courses and focus on how computer science is taught and learned. I graduated from Ashesi in 2026 with a BSc in Computer Science (Magna Cum Laude).
My research interests sit at the intersection of digital health, medical imaging, and AI safety. I’m especially interested in making health AI safe and accessible for African communities. Right now, I'm building a Shona healthcare AI safety dataset and working on a scenario pack for SimpleAudit, an open-source AI safety auditing library, to test how well AI models handle health questions from Shona speakers.
Previously, I co-founded SheaGlow, an AI-powered dermatology platform for melanin-rich skin, built Dr Roots, a WhatsApp chatbot that identifies indigenous Zimbabwean medicinal plants, and co-developed Zvirevo, open-source word embeddings for Shona. I’m planning to pursue an MSc in computer science with an emphasis on digital health, and medical imaging.
Outside of research, I love design, music and poetry. You can check out my portfolio here.
